Facts and Myths: Foreigners Integration Centres

On October 21 and 29, 2024, the first informational meetings were held regarding the Foreigners Integration Centers, which will be established in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in 2025.

What will the Foreigners Integration Centers (FIC) do?

The FIC will be a place where foreigners receive comprehensive support to aid their integration into the local community. Its operation will be based on the “one-stop-shop” concept, which concentrates a wide range of services for foreigners in a single location.

Funding: Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021–2027
Managing Authority: Department of European Funds, Ministry of the Interior and Administration
Budget: Pomeranian Voivodeship – 30,027,000 PLN (Poland total – 432,520,000 PLN)

In the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the project will establish two Centres: FIC Gdańsk and FIC Słupsk, both operating under the Pomorskie WELCOME Center brand.

The project will be implemented in cooperation with the Pomeranian Voivodeship Local Government, the Pomeranian Voivode, and a social consortium consisting of the Centre for Integration of Immigrants, OVUM Association, and PORT. Open Space Association.

Activities at the FIC will include support for the integration process of migrants:

  • Information and advisory points in Gdańsk and Słupsk at the Pomeranian Voivodeship Office – Residency Legalisation Department, offering help with residence legalisation procedures and broader integration support.

  • Initiatives to strengthen cooperation and information exchange between public administration bodies to improve coordination of migrant-related activities.

  • Trainings for education workers, public administration staff, and project personnel to develop intercultural competencies and improve standards of service for foreigners.

  • Workshops, trainings, and debates for the local community to raise awareness of cultural diversity and combat prejudice.

  • Communication activities directed at migrants and the host society through social and informational campaigns, community meetings, and initiatives promoting integration and intercultural understanding.

  • Online and in-person informational meetings on various topics related to life in Poland and functioning within the local community.

  • Polish language courses at different levels (A1/A2 and B1/B2) to facilitate communication and social participation for foreigners.

  • Actions aimed at preventing domestic violence and human trafficking within migrant communities.

  • Psychological support for migrant children and adults to assist their adaptation to the new environment.

  • Orientation and adaptation courses to help migrants understand local norms and societal rules.

  • Legal support for migrants regarding residence, work, and protection of legal rights.

Expected long-term outcomes:

Through project activities, foreigners will receive essential support for adaptation and integration, improving their functioning in Polish society.

Residents of the voivodeship will gain greater awareness and understanding of cultural diversity, which is key to building open and integrated communities.

The project’s long-term effects will be visible socially and economically, contributing to the creation of a harmonious, safe, and equitable society.
