Paweł Adamowicz was one of the most prominent advocates in Poland for openness toward migrants and refugees. Under his leadership, Gdańsk developed integration programs, support for foreigners, and cooperation with non-governmental organizations. In 2015, he established an intersectoral team whose work led to the creation of the Gdańsk Model of Immigrant Integration, outlining strategies for immigrant integration and strengthening cooperation and quality of activities in this field. In 2016, the Model was adopted by the Gdańsk City Council, and the following year, together with the mayors of eleven other Polish cities, he signed a declaration on cooperation in the area of internal and external migration.
The Wreath of Remembrance, created by workshop participants, symbolizes unity, opposition to aggression, and respect for life. The wreath was brought to Mayor Paweł Adamowicz’s memorial to honor his ideals of openness, courage, and dialogue.
The workshop, “Ceramic Wreath of Remembrance”, was organized in collaboration with Klub Cafe Albert – St. Brother Albert Aid Society, Gdańsk Chapter.
